Apollo MCP Server Documentation

Connect Apollo's 275M+ contact database, real-time enrichment engine, and sales engagement tools directly inside Claude. Prospect, enrich, manage contacts, and run sequences - all from a single conversation.

Getting Started

  1. Connect Apollo - Open Claude, go to Settings > Connectors, and click Connect next to Apollo. You'll be redirected to Apollo to authorize access via OAuth. No API keys needed.
  2. Authorize permissions - Review the requested scopes and click Allow. Claude will be able to search for prospects, get latest information (firmographics and demographics), manage contacts and sequences on your behalf using your Apollo account's permissions.
  3. Start using Apollo - In any Claude conversation, enable the Apollo connector via the + button. Then ask Claude anything - like "Find senior engineers at fintech companies in New York" - and Apollo's tools activate automatically.

Works with any Apollo plan. Your existing plan's API limits and credit balance apply.

What You Can Do

Search & Prospecting

Find people, companies, contacts, and sequences across Apollo's database using natural language.

  • Search People - Search Apollo's 275M+ person database by title, seniority, location, company, industry, employee count, revenue, tech stack, and more. Returns names, titles, companies, and data availability flags (email, phone, location).
  • Search Companies - Find companies by domain, location, size, revenue range, industry, or keywords. Returns firmographic profiles.
  • Search Contacts - Search your team's saved contacts in Apollo by name, stage, or keywords.
  • Search Sequences - Find existing email sequences in your account by name or keywords.

Note: People search results show names and titles but do not include email addresses or phone numbers. Use the enrichment tools below to reveal contact details.

Enrichment

Unlock verified emails, direct dials, and full profiles using Apollo's enrichment engine. Enrichment consumes credits based on your plan.

  • Enrich Person - Provide a name, email, LinkedIn URL, or domain to get verified email, phone numbers, current title, company, employment history, and more.
  • Enrich Company - Provide a domain or company name to get full firmographics: industry, employee count, revenue, tech stack, funding history, headquarters, and more.
  • Bulk Enrich People - Enrich multiple people in a single request. Provide an array of identifying details (name + domain, LinkedIn URLs, emails) and get back enriched profiles for each.

Contact Management

Create and update contacts in your Apollo CRM directly from Claude.

  • Create Contact - Add a new contact with name, email, title, company, phone numbers, address, custom fields, and list assignments. Optionally enable deduplication to prevent duplicates.
  • Update Contact - Modify any field on an existing contact: title, company, email, phone numbers, custom fields, and more.
  • Get Contact - Retrieve full details for a specific contact by their Apollo ID.

Company Management

  • Get Company - Retrieve full firmographic details for a specific company by their Apollo ID.
  • Get Job Postings - Search for open job postings associated with companies in Apollo. Useful for identifying hiring signals and expansion intent.

Sales Engagement / Sequences

Manage your outbound sequences without leaving Claude.

  • List Email Accounts - View your connected mailboxes. Required to identify which email account to send from when adding contacts to sequences.
  • Add Contacts to Sequence - Add one or more contacts to an existing sequence. Specify the sequence, contacts, and sender mailbox id(s): one id as a string, or multiple ids as an array of strings for multi-mailbox or rotation (never guess ids; use values returned by List Email Accounts).
  • Remove Contacts from Sequence - Remove contacts from an active sequence. Cancels pending outreach tasks while preserving historical engagement data.

Best Practices

  • Be specific with filters - Include job titles, seniority levels, locations, and company attributes to get precise results. "VP of Sales at healthcare companies with 500+ employees in APAC" works better than "sales people at big companies."
  • Use domains, not just company names - When enriching, include the company domain (e.g., stripe.com) for higher match accuracy.
  • Enrich after searching -- People search returns profiles without contact details. Follow up with "Enrich the top 3 results" to reveal emails and phone numbers.
  • Check your mailbox first - Before adding contacts to sequences, ask Claude to list your email accounts so you can specify which mailbox or mailboxes to send from (one id or an array of ids).
  • One company at a time for enrichment - For best results, enrich contacts at one company per request rather than mixing multiple companies.
  • Use deduplication when creating contacts - Ask Claude to "create this contact with dedup enabled" to avoid duplicates in your CRM.

Pricing & Credits

  • No additional cost to connect Apollo to Claude. The connector is available on all Apollo plans.
  • Search is free - People search and company search do not consume credits.
  • Enrichment uses credits - Enriching a person or company consumes credits from your Apollo plan balance. Bulk enrichment consumes credits per person enriched.
  • Sequence operations are free - Adding/removing contacts from sequences does not consume additional credits.
  • Rate limits apply - API rate limits from your Apollo plan apply to MCP tool usage. Higher-tier plans have higher limits.
  • No paid Claude plan is required to use the Apollo connector.

Limitations

  • Email/phone not in search results - People search returns names, titles, and companies but not contact details. Use enrichment tools to reveal emails and phone numbers.
  • Pagination - Search results return up to 25 results per page. Ask Claude to paginate ("show me the next page") for more results.
  • Read and create operations only - The connector does not support bulk delete or bulk update operations to prevent unintended data changes.
  • Sequence creation/editing - Creating new sequences and editing sequence steps are coming soon.
  • Your plan's limits apply - Tool access and data availability follow your Apollo plan's API permissions. Some features may not be available on all plans.

Troubleshooting

"I don't see Apollo in Connectors"Ensure you're on a supported Claude plan. Check Settings > Connectors for the Apollo connector.
"Authorization failed"Re-connect Apollo from Settings > Connectors. Ensure your Apollo account is active.
"No results found" for a searchTry broadening your filters. Use fewer criteria or check spelling of company names/domains.
"Credit limit reached"Enrichment consumes credits. Check your credit balance at app.apollo.io. Upgrade your plan for more credits.
"Cannot add to sequence"Ensure you have at least one connected email account. Use "list my email accounts" to check.
Enrichment returns no emailNot all contacts have verified emails in Apollo's database. Try providing more identifying details (full name + domain + LinkedIn URL).

Privacy & Security

  • OAuth 2.0 authentication - Claude never sees your Apollo password. You authorize specific permissions via OAuth, and you can revoke access at any time from your Claude account settings.
  • Your data stays yours - Apollo's connector returns data scoped to your account's permissions.
  • No destructive operations - The connector does not support delete or bulk-update operations, preventing AI-caused data loss.
  • Plan-gated access - Tool access follows your existing Apollo plan permissions. The connector cannot access data beyond what your plan allows.
